First Edition. Edinburgh: Adam and Charles Black, 1853. 4to. Quarter brown calf and marbled paper boards. Pages: xxiv, 349. Large folding map at rear. 10 coloured plates. Numerous illustrations throughout.

Later rebinding in quarter brown calf and marbled paper boards. Spine lettered and ruled in gilt. Title on red Morocco panel. Edges uncut. W. Williams signature pencilled at top of FFEP. Very good. Rubbing to cover boards and edges. Mild wearing at corners. Leather spine in excellent condition, colours rich and gilt remains bright. Contents in excellent condition. Some foxing at front and rear, as well as to plate tissue guards and adjacent leaves.
