Two early Chouinard Climbing Equipment Catalogues (First Edition)
Extremely rare editions of the famous Chouinard Equipment/Great Pacific Ironworks catalogues!
Presented here are two equipment catalogues from the height of Chouinard Equipment's early popularity - right after the creation of The Great Pacific Ironworks. There is a unique quality to these that sets them apart from the marketing of other brands. Chouinard's pride in their product, their care for climbers' safety, and their lofty ethical standards are woven throughout both catalogues. The production finish is superb, and the information within is well written.
The brochures are in fantastic condition for their age. Owing to their production quality, the materials have held up wonderfully. They are free from foxing and blemishes, with only a touch of toning at some edges and some bumping at the corners. Clearly taken care of by their owners, they remain protected in mylar sleeves and will likely keep their condition for a long time yet with the right handling. A fantastic example from the early heights of Chouinard's history, before they would come to dominate the adventure market as Patagonia.
California: Sandollar Press, 1974 & California: Ventura Press, 1975. 8vo. 2 volumes, one a tall, slim and narrow 4to. and the other a small, oblong 8vo. Vol.I: 73pp; vol.II: 96pp. Both bound in original pictorial softcover wrappers. Very good. Some bumping to upper corner of taller volume. Some remnant tape adhesive and a sticker to rear,. Otherwise, in fantastic order, pages clear and bright. Smaller volume has a crease along the front cover near the lower corner. The word “keep” has been written to the upper cover margin in pen. Some of the leaves have come loose from the spine binding. Otherwise, also in fantastic condition. Cover image remains bold, contents clear and bright. Both volumes have W. Williams blind stamp to first page.
Provenance:Â From the library of Warwick H. Williams.
